Famous designer Marc Newson joins close friend, Jony Ive at Apple’s Design Team

According to a new report which was confirmed by Apple, it has snapped up design genius and Ive’s friend Marc Newson.

Both Newson and Ive have worked together on Apple products in the past, notably the special edition Product (RED) Mac Pro that was auctioned off as part of a charity event, and they’ve also collaborated on non-Apple hardware like the Leica M camera. The duo apparently gets along ridiculously well too, which should make for quite the working relationship in Cupertino.

Welcoming his friend into his team at Apple Ive said, in a statement to VF Daily:

“Marc is without question one of the most influential designers of this generation, He is extraordinarily talented. We are particularly excited to formalize our collaboration as we enjoy working together so much and have found our partnership so effective.”

It’s a feeling that seems reciprocated by Newson too, saying that he is “full of admiration and respect for the extraordinary design work that has been produced by Jony and the team at Apple.” He further said

“My close friendship with Jony has not only given me a unique insight into that process, but the opportunity to work together with him and the people who have been responsible. I am enormously proud to join them.”

Newson, for what it’s worth, has previously claimed that he “pre-dated the trend for large watches by about a decade” and has created several concepts and designs for watches of his own. This is Apple’s latest new recruit with roots in wearables, which once again points squarely to Apple getting ready to enter the smartwatch market.
