Microsoft has finally announced Office for iPads releasing today at 11am PT/ 2pm ET/ 11:30pm IST on the App Store. The apps have been rumoured to be in development for the past couple of years. Microsoft had also recently released an ad campaign about the fact that the iPad doesn’t have any Office apps, which has been one of its very few and major marketing points for its Surface tablets.
The apps include individual Office apps — PowerPoint, Excel and Word, which will be free to download but to edit and create documents, an Office365 subscription is required. Users can still read and present documents with the Office for iPad apps.
Microsoft debuted its Office for iPhone apps last year which required an Office365 subscription also. More recently, it released its great note making app OneNote for Mac which has been the Editor’s Choice on the Mac App Store(MAS) for the past couple of weeks. Microsoft’s apps are also in the top 20 free Mac apps on the MAS.
