HTC has officially unveiled the second generation of its flagship smartphone the new One (codenamed M8) in New York.
Another big announcement for Sense 6 is that HTC is opening up its Blinkfeed homescreen to developers with a new SDK, releasing today. Foursquare will be the first partner to support this feature and will publish, for example, lunch recommendations into the Blinkfeed homescreen, while Fitbit shall display activity milestones in the feed. HTC hopes for support from other developers to arrive soon.
HTC also spent much time talking about the hardware and software tweaks it made like the improved sound quality due to repositioning of the speaker chambers in the phone. HTC also mentioned some big improvements for the camera including a new camera switcher with new “Dual Capture”, “Selfie”, and “Customizable manual” shooting modes. The M8 also features a 300 millisecond focus time which is a staggering 50% faster than the previous generation.
The HTC One M8 will be available for sale in the US and Canadian markets from today whereas 6 other markets by the end of April including Australia, Taiwan, UK, Germany, France and China.
